Madeleine Greenway Selected as the Neil Balkwill Artist in Residence
The City of Regina is pleased to announce that Madeleine Greenway, a local Regina artist, has been selected as the Neil Balkwill Artist in Residence.
Greenway will explore stories and experiences of gardeners in Regina’s North Central neighbourhood through her portraits of growers in their spaces, and still life drawings and prints of the foods they grow.
“It is my desire to show the pleasure and passion that lies behind the gardens of North Central,” says Greenway. “My hope with this project is to help put North Central Regina on the cultural map.”
Madeleine’s visual art practice focuses on drawing and printmaking, with portraits and still life being her primary subjects. She has completed a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from the Alberta University of the Arts and a master’s degree in Fine Art from the University of Regina. She is a sessional art instructor at the U of R, an instructor for adult classes at Neil Balkwill, and works at the Art Gallery of Regina as the Partnership Manager. Madeleine currently has an exhibition, “Propagation”, on tour with the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts and Culture—which will be making several stops throughout Saskatchewan until 2025.
The City issued an open Call for Artist in May. A panel of adjudicators from the art and culture community made their selection based on project merit, community engagement and impact, and how the artist’s proposal aligned with the Call for Artist and the City of Regina’s Cultural Plan.
Greenway will complete her residency by October 2023 and will have the opportunity to submit her completed artistic work to be accessioned into the City’s Civic Art Collection. Her residency will further support the City’s Cultural Plan goals to embrace cultural diversity, strengthen the artistic and cultural community, and commemorate and celebrate the City's cultural heritage.
