Update on Carbon Monoxide Incident at 1827 Albert Street
Regina Fire & Protective Services has completed the scene examination of the carbon monoxide incident that occurred on December 19, 2025 at a multi-unit residential building at 1827 Albert Street. While the scene examination is complete, the investigation is ongoing and includes the Regina Police Service, which will determine if there is a criminal aspect.
Regina Fire & Protective Services has confirmed that the incident was unintentional. It was caused by a boiler that experienced significant internal failure, resulting in a substantial release of carbon monoxide. Regina Fire & Protective Services has seized the boiler and plans to send it away to undergo further technical examination in an effort to determine the precise cause of failure.
Carbon Monoxide Safety Reminders
Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colourless gas that can quickly become life-threatening. Early detection is critical.
Regina Fire & Protective Services urges all residents to take the following steps to protect themselves and their families:
- Install CSA-approved carbon monoxide alarms inside each sleeping room or outside each sleeping area, with one on each level in homes with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages.
- Test alarms monthly and replace them according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Ensure all fuel burning appliances, including furnaces, boilers, fireplaces and water heaters are inspected annually by qualified professionals.
- Never ignore a carbon monoxide alarm. If it sounds, evacuate immediately and call 9-1-1.
