Hazardous Materials Depot

The City opened a Household Hazardous Materials Depot available to residents year-round, free of charge. Household hazardous materials are items that can be corrosive, flammable or poisonous. Knowing which products are hazardous can help you protect yourself, your family and the environment.

Location & Hours of Operation

Location

The Household Hazardous Materials Depot is located just south of the Landfill entrance on Fleet Street with a separate entrance for residents to drop off their hazardous material.

Hours of Operation

Fridays and Saturdays

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Year-round

Guidelines

Follow these guidelines when visiting the Hazardous Materials Depot.

  • For everyone’s safety, all materials should be left in the original container or labelled to allow for contents to be identified. Do not mix products together.
  • Batteries can pose a fire risk if handled incorrectly. Make sure to cover the ends of your batteries with non-conductive tape, such as packing tape, duct tape or electrical tape before bringing them to the Depot.
  • Site signage will direct residents to the appropriate disposal area.
  • Residents will need to take their materials to the attendants in the building to be sorted.
  • Commercial loads are not permitted.

Storage Tips

Follow the storage instructions on the product label. Storage requirements vary based on the hazardous property a material has.

  • Tightly cap all containers.
  • Where allowed, store containers together in a large heavy-duty plastic container to prevent potential spillage.
  • Make sure you store flammable products in the recommended temperature range.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Do a periodic check on the storage area to ensure no problems have occurred.
    • Be sure there are no apparent fumes.
    • Ensure you can clearly see each label.
    • The containers should be clear of rust, bulges, dents or leaks.
  • Never pour or flush household hazardous waste materials down the drain. Chemicals can corrode pipes and cause issues at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
