Celebrate Indigenous Storytelling Month with Star Stories Night!
This is a FREE event on February 27 from 5 to 9 p.m., taking place at three locations:
- Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre
(2420 Elphinstone Street) - Regina Public Library at mâmawêyatitân centre
(3355 6th Avenue) - Saskatchewan Science Centre
(2903 Powerhouse Drive)
Activities at Each Location
Saskatchewan Science Centre:
- The entire Science Centre exhibit floor will be free and open to the public.
- The Astronomical Society will offer tours of the Kalium Observatory telescope.
- Nanan Academy will facilitate a robotics and coding activity developed in collaboration with Cowessess First Nation that integrates the seven Grandfather teachings.
- A temporary travelling exhibit called Earth in Focus with satellite imagery, astronaut-captured videos, interactive space games and a hands-on topographic sand table.
- Stargazing sessions at the Little Theatre.
Regina Public Library at mâmawêyatitân centre:
- Rabbit and Bear Paws, a performing group from Manitoba, will present a puppet show based on the Star Story Fisher and the Gift of Summer.
- The Kawacatoose Boys, a family drum group, will perform throughout the night.
- Activities include constellation crafts, button making and a beadwork workshop.
- Free hot chocolate and bannock will be served.
Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre:
- Star Dome experience with Indigenous storyteller Dickie Yuzicappi.
- Craft activity based on the Star Blanket design motif with Tracey George Heese.
- Snowshoe tours with Nature Regina.
- A food truck pavilion will be on site, offering food for purchase.
Free Transit Shuttle
The free shuttle runs every 15 minutes between all three locations from 5 to 9 p.m. The last shuttle at 9 p.m. will travel to all three centres.
