Stay Fire Safe During the Holiday Season
fire safe, stable surface and always staying in the room when a candle is lit. Extinguish all
candles completely before leaving the room. Christmas Trees – The
smell of a live tree puts everyone in the holiday spirit but if it’s
not cared for, it can become a fire hazard. Ensure it is watered daily and kept away from all heat
sources. After the holidays, Treecycle your tree by dropping it off
at the Yard Waste Depot, Monday to Saturday from December 26, 2024 to January 31, 2025 from 9 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. Fireplaces and wood stoves – Enjoy your fireplace safely by ensuring it is
professionally inspected and cleaned. Ensure all decorations such as stockings and garlands are
kept a safe distance away from the fire. Ice and Water – Inconsistent air temperatures make ice
surfaces unpredictable. Keep away from all bodies of water, including Wascana Lake and Creek, storm
channels and detention ponds. If an emergency on the ice occurs involving pets or people, call
9-1-1. Visit Regina.ca/fire to learn more.
