This is a construction project in response to the failure of a large storm drain in 2023 that caused a sinkhole in the yard of a private residence. This required the installation of a temporary stormwater management system in Wascana Center consisting of a large sump pit and several large pumps. A new storm drain will be installed that will take storm water from existing infrastructure on College Avenue south along Hamilton Street to Wascana Lake. Landscaping will be reinstated and improved with a new storm water outfall and several new shrubs will be planted.
All underground infrastructure is complete. The construction crew has paved from Old Campus Road south towards Wascana Drive and Hamilton Street is now fully open. Wascana Drive will be open as of October 10. The crew is currently installing the new outfall structure near Wascana Lake.
Current and Upcoming Restrictions:
Until October 16
- A portion of the park between Wascana Drive and Wascana Lake will be fenced off to allow for construction of the outfall structure and landscaping of the area. The multi-use pathway remains closed. Pedestrians can use Wascana Drive to bypass the construction site.
- Hamilton Street south of College Avenue is restricted to local traffic only off Old Campus Road.
