This is a construction project in response to the failure of a large storm drain in 2023 that caused a sinkhole in the yard of a private residence. This required the installation of a temporary stormwater management system in Wascana Center consisting of a large sump pit and several large pumps. A new storm drain will be installed that will take storm water from existing infrastructure on College Avenue south along Hamilton Street to Wascana Lake. Landscaping will be reinstated and improved with a new storm water outfall and several new shrubs will be planted.
Work continues in the park. Construction crews will continue working north down Hamilton Street towards College Avenue.
Current Restrictions:
- July 21 to August 14 – College Avenue will be restricted on the eastbound side of the road between Scarth Street and Rose Street with two-way traffic being maintained on the westbound lanes.
- May 20 to September 17 – A portion of the park between Wascana Drive and Wascana Lake will be fenced off to allow for excavation and drainage pipe installation. The park’s multi-use pathway will remain open at this time.
- Hamilton Street south of College Avenue is restricted to local traffic only off Old Campus Road.
